The Detectorist – Series two with two discs

The quirky members of the Danebury Metal Detectors Club return for more bickering and treasure-hunting. Andy (Mackenzie Crook, Pirates of the Caribbean, Game of Thrones) is still unemployed and Lance (Toby Jones, The Hunger Games, Captain America) is still unlucky in love. This BAFTA-winning Britcom is “one of the loveliest, most inventive things on TV” (Daily Mail).
Editor’s Note
I have been a metal detector hobbyists for years in the US. This series does portray the hobby accurately. For instance, they are always finding aluminum pop tops, cans and metal toys and maybe a few coins. However in England the hobbyist have a far greater chance of getting some really old roman coins and even some silver and gold ones due to the long history of that small Island. In the US we only go back to the 1700’s for the most part when looking for metal artifacts.
But the real jewel of this series is the understated and subtle humor that abounds in this TV series. Don’t look for slapstick or trip and fall down laughs or even easy time worn laughs. Andy and Lance and others in this series work so well together. Especially Becky who is Andy’s girlfriend. One would not think Andy could snag such a lovely girlfriend. They truly bring this series to life. The only bad thing about this series is that there is only two seasons. There has to be some more being filmed it is just too good to end with the second season.
I always wondered why the British sitcoms and other historical TV series are so much better than their American counterparts.

Season two of the Detectorists continues the saga and is as good as season one. This is one of the best series by BBC. It is an even drama with wonderful actors and great story lines. A pleasure to view. Highly recommend.
Hope they make some specials

Very sorry to see that there are only 2 Series or Seasons. It had to have been challenging to do so much filming outside in the gorgeous countryside but I wish they could have made more! Really enjoyed losing myself in everyone’s daily lives. Would be really nice if they occasionally make a special. I’ve watched through twice already. Satisfying conclusion but also possible to pickup up and continue should the opportunity arise. Writing is simply superb!

Teenage – film by Matt Wolf

Teenagers didn’t always exist. They had to be invented. As the cultural landscape around the world was thrown into turmoil during the industrial revolution, and with a chasm erupting between adults and youth, the concept of a new generation took shape. Whether in America, England, or Germany, whether party-crazed Flappers or hip Swing Kids, zealous Nazi Youth or frenzied Sub-Debs, it didn’t matter – this was a new idea of youth. They were all “Teenagers.”

A hypnotic rumination on the genesis of youth culture from the end of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th, Matt Wolf’s TEENAGE is a living collage of rare archival material, filmed portraits, and diary entries read by Jena Malone, Ben Whishaw, and others. Inspired by Jon Savage’s book and set to a shimmering contemporary score by Bradford Cox (Deerhunter / Atlas Sound), TEENAGE is a mesmerizing trip into the past and a riveting look at the very idea of “coming-of-age.”
